Dan #18 – Augh. [Updated] January 12, 2009

“Augh.” It’s what Charlie Brown yells when that bitch Lucy pulls away the football. It’s also the only thing I can think of that sums up my thoughts right now.

I’ll start with yesterday. Yesterday wasn’t a stellar day for me. As I said in my last post, I’m expecting a package from Arc containing BioShock, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Well, yesterday was Sunday, so no mail. Add to this that all day I had a light headache which got progressively worse throughout the day, and a toothache to boot.

So, like I said… Not a stellar day.

Now, today. Monday. Mail runs again, but does my package come? Nope. This makes a week since he mailed it and it’s still not here. However, I mailed him a package a day later than he mailed his. His arrived on Saturday. A big “wtf” to the United States Postal Service is in order.

Anyway, big deal. I’m a pretty patient guy — one more day ain’t gonna hurt. But this story doesn’t stop there.

My dad works third shift. He leaves the house at 6 PM. He leaves today, just like always, only to return at 6:15. With a busted headlight. And a dented hood. And a misplaced radiator.

He hit a damn deer.

This is NOT good. The car isn’t beyond repair, but it’ll take money. Money we don’t have. We’re already practically going paycheck-to-paycheck. HIS paychecks, since I can’t find a job to save my life and my mom doesn’t have one either. With this, our “working vehicle” count decreases to one. One vehicle for a family of three. Oh, but the fun doesn’t stop there! Our one working vehicle? Power steering leak. Need like $200 to fix it. You can still drive it, but you have to pour power steering fluid in it before you do.

Oh, and remember what I said. Paycheck-to-paycheck. Fixing either of these vehicles is no small task. Perhaps worst of all is how bad I feel for being so powerless (read: jobless) in this whole scenario. I mean, I know it’s not my fault. Lord knows I’ve been looking MONTHS for a job, but the economy hasn’t seen fit to cooperate.

I’m sure we’ll figure something out, or someone will step in to help us… I mean, we’ve been through far worse than this. I won’t go into details on that, but believe me… We’ve been in far worse conditions than this, and we’ve come through alright.

But for now… Augh. Just… Augh.

UPDATE: …And I thought my past two days were bad. My cousin (the same one I refer to all the time — the one I usually borrow games from) was in a wreck on his way to school this morning. While he and his little brother aren’t hurt too badly, the other driver is dead… I don’t have any more details other than that, except for the fact that my cousin wasn’t the one at fault. Still, this is tragic, and I can’t imagine how shaken he must feel right now seeing another person die right in front of him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, as well as the other driver’s.

Sorry to hear about what happened. Hope everything works out for you.

Thanks, you guys. Though now I’m more worried about my cousin and his family than I am my own. I edited the post with some details at the bottom.

Today pretty much sucked all around, it seems.

Oh man… Sorry to hear about all that…

I can tell it’s been a really hard day for you, mon, but I hope everything gets better for you and your family soon.

My condolences about the other driver… I hope your cousin recovers from that incident.

I’m pretty bad at these comments, but I hope everything will work out in the end.

Thanks, Reb.

I talked to him (through Wii messages, how we usually communicate. I haven’t talked to him on the phone or in person yet) some more just now and I got a few details.

He was turning in to the school driveway and the other drive rear-ended him. HARD. His truck (the other guy’s, not my cousin’s) ended up on its top, and it slung the driver out of his passenger window.

I’m not sure how much damage it did to my cousin’s truck… Or his mental state. He SEEMS fine for the most part, but I know he has to be taking this pretty hard.

Hey man, I hope things really do get better for you and your cousin. I am sorry to hear about the other driver though. Maybe you could keep us updated on the following events?

7. Dan - January 12, 2009

Yeah, will do.

I learned that his truck took severe damage. He says he’ll be VERY surprised if they don’t just total it.

Oh man, that’s rough. ;_; I hope everything works out for both you and your cousin.
