ORIGINAL REVIEW DATE: May 4, 2009
Eureka Seven is a widely popular and praised mecha anime TV series produced by Bones. It aired from April 17, 2005 to April 2, 2006 spanning up to 50 episodes.
It has made itself into other types of entertainment as well including 2 mangas, a light novel, a series of video games and most recently a feature film.
I’m gonna do this review differently. I’ll individually rate each part of my reviews according to how I felt the quality was on each subject. I’ll still give my overall rating but this way it can be a little more detailed on each part. I’ve also decided to steal the “Character” category from Dan and Chris’ review.

Plot
★★★★☆

Renton and his Grandfather
Renton Thurston. Out cast of school. Boring life style in a little town called Bellforest. He goes day after day without having anything remotely eventful happen. Renton got tired of living this lifestyle long ago. One night a LFO (Mechs of this world) suddenly crashes into his Grandfather’s garage. A girl emerges out of it with an expressionless face. The LFO had been badly damaged. Luckily for the girl who identified herself as Eureka, Renton’s grandfather is a mechanic and quickly gets to working on it. Not only because she is in need of help but because that machine is the famous, Nirvash TypeZERO. The “Ultimate” LFO and the first of it’s kind.
The following day, the Nirvash has been completely fixed but all doesn’t go well when the military acts. Sending squads of LFOs to capture the Nirvash, Eureka quickly

Eureka
acts and engages in combat with them. Renton’s grandpa gives Renton a key called the Amita Drive. Telling him to give it to the girl. Saying it will awaken the LFO’s true abilities. Renton quickly chases after her and delivers it to her despite all the dangers he went through. He activates a tremendous power called the Seven Swell.
Holland, a famous person known for his lifting(A type of airborne surfing) skills, arrives at Renton’s house. Telling them he’s a companion of Eureka’s. Eureka wants Renton to go with them. Saying how the Nirvash won’t work without him. Renton decided to leave his home, making a promise to his grandpa to come back.
Characters
★★★☆☆
The characters were good and serve their roles well but sometimes they can get tiring, especially the protagonist, Renton. He reminds me of a lesser toned Naruto. Remember, Naruto equals bad but I can actually stomach Renton. Eureka is the main female lead. Her slowly changing personality has a lot of conflict in this series. I won’t say she’s original but that dosen’t mean she’s a bad character. A little too much with the cliches though. There are a lot more characters to talk about but they don’t matter as much as these two do.
Artwork
★★★☆☆
The artwork is pretty well made when it comes to the beginning episodes. Nearly all shows do but like the majority of them, it starts to lose it’s shine after a while. It maintains most of it’s quality until it hits the 30s. Pretty
much hitting rock bottom. Even when the opening changed, the quality was no different from the show. All openings are suppose to be high in art but that wasn’t the case for Eureka Seven. It picks up towards the end around the 40s. The last two episodes being the best animated ones out of them all.
I can’t blame the show though for it’s slope down hill. The budget usually thickens midway for most. Nearly all have an average of 25 episodes per series. Eureka could’ve put all of what was necessary for the plot to be heard within 25 episodes without losing any of the meaning. Some episodes we could have done without but eh. Can’t do anything about it.

lol sup bones?
Music
★★★★☆
The music was pretty great. One second I thought I was in a night club and the next it sounds like I’m hearing some of the music from Code Geass and then after that it looked like I was listening to a Disney Soundtrack. Yea, a pretty big verity of sounds. A good thing in this case. The only song from the list of OPs and EDs was the first one from FLOW. They’ve done plenty of other songs different anime but the songs I like the most that they’ve made were both for Code Geass.
Final Thoughts
Eureka’s style is pretty common. The story is well written but there are some flaws with how it’s portrayed by the characters and the artwork. It still is a good anime if you can look past all that. Not one of my favorites but a good recommendation if you’ve got nothing else to watch.
I give Eureka Seven an 7 outta 10.
