c wut I did thar?

Anyway, before I update on whatever I’ve done this past week, I’m going to do a stupid girl rant. So.. I got this god damn fucking hair straightener on Friday. It was great. My hair looked awesome. A bit too emo, though. I decided to tone it down, but anyway, it’s fun messing with a hair straightener. I washed my hair, then I tried straightening it again, it was fine.. but it looked too normal. The god damn back of my hair keeps curving at the edges, no matter how many times I try to straighten it, it won’t stop. ._. God damn it. It doesn’t look that bad. But still. I bought it so that my hair wouldn’t curve at the edges. ; – ; ANYWAY, gamesz + anime.

Contains spoilers on FFVI, CANAAN, and Saki. Read at your own risk (though I doubt people will read this post, anyway.).

Joining yours and mine… Deleting all the layers of Backloggery~

[edit @ 3:45pm - 9/26] I’ve decided to do another little segment for myself here on the blog called Dissidirage Weekly. Each week, I’ll be updating my current status in Dissidia: Final Fantasy, as well as where I rank characters in that point in time as well. However, I will be separating the Heroes and Villains. Probably at the end of each month, I’ll be combining the lists and ranking where I play as each and stuff. The edit is just to note of me combining this rant as well as noting the first of Dissidirage Weekly.

Alright, that’s enough singing. I’ve been going on a kind of purge fest on my Backloggery as of yesterday. It’s mainly to reflect games that are no longer in my possession and stuff I’ve downloaded and abandoned since then. There’s a couple of games still ed, but I’ll live with them being ed for now.

Anyway, to the more important things.

For those of you who MIGHT’VE noticed it, I added another page to the About Us page. Simply called Random Questions. Every so often, I (or someone else) could toss a random question for the rest of us to answer. I decided to start off with a simple question about the history of our usernames, so Ranters, check it out when you can, alright? I’m interested in knowing the history of some of your usernames.

Oh shi-, Dissidia rant. Hit the jump. (more…)

Ren #31 – SO LET ME COME TO YOU. September 20, 2009

Today is my religious holiday. Happy Eid! Although, frankly, I couldn’t care less. It just gives me a fucking excuse to wake up early on Sunday, which I have a rather strong aggression towards. Waking up early really sucks. This also reminds me that I need to work on Loco’s characterset thing.. SO GET TO CHOOSING WHOM YOU WANT. Just until we move onto that next theme. I need to download Photoshop CS3 again. o_o Got my laptop back, afterall.

Oh, I know this doesn’t remotely relate to gaming in any way, but I’m reading a book called Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. It’s really fucked up and twisted. Simply because it’s like you’re jumping into the mind of a pedophile. It’s… apparently where the terms “loli” and “lolicon” derive from. Oh, Japan. Although, this originated from Russia, lawl. It’s basically about a middle-aged man that becomes quite obsessed and fascinated with a 12-year old girl. He lusts after her and has fantasies about her. He’s into little girls.. it’s really, urgh. I’m only about 70-pages in so far.

ANYWAY. Gaming.

I beat Dissidia. Pretty much grinded Cloud to the 90’s, so the final boss wasn’t that difficult. Surprisingly, grinding is rather simple in that game, not very time consuming, either. It’s actually quite fun. Well, to me, anyway. >_> It urged me to play the rest of the Final Fantasies, but that’s kind of a stretch. They’re really time consuming, and I’m really lazy. But I’ll do my best!

Which brings me to Final Fantasy VI. Yeah, yo, totally still playin’ that game. It’s fun. For being the main character, Terra doesn’t really show up much. Or maybe it’s because I’m only like 9 hours in. Everyone seems to debate about who’s the main character of FFVI, but the plot revolves around Terra.. and she was also featured as the main for FFVI in Dissidia.. so I’m just going to label her as the main character. Locke is cool and all, but he’s really.. boring.

I just finished up the Opera House segment of the game. Jesus, that shit wasn’t fun at all. I had to go back and fetch Edgar to add onto my team. ; – ; I want my Terra back!~

I need to start up Persona 4 again.. I left off somewhere… after Yukiko’s castle.

Oh, games. How I neglect you so!

Noi #17 – Disc Read Error, and not the Insert Disc 2 kind September 17, 2009

It’s really a tragic thing when game consoles backfire on you. As evidenced during my stream last saturday, my Wii has halfway died and gone to heaven, as it’s unable to read discs after someone (who I have yet to find out who was responsible), chucked a PS2 disc in it, damaging the laser. It can still run channels and downloaded games just fine, so it’s not a total loss, but my entire disc-based collection is entirely unplayable for a while, which means no Muramasa: The Demon Blade until this little problem is fixed.

Now, onto video games.

This week’s been hectic. The brunt of the Fall video game rush is just now starting to show. I’ve already picked up Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Scribblenauts and an unexpected Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, all of which I’ve enjoyed plenty. I might review one of the latter, if my Dissidia review ends up going flat. I’m gonna see if I can pick up the Batman: Arkham Asylum Collector’s Edition box today, since I saw it at my local gamestop when I went to pick up the two DS games, and I /think/ it was the only one left.

On the pre-order horizon though, many more games have yet to come. Both Katamari Forever and Persona PSP come out next week, with Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days coming out the week after. Finally, Demon’s Souls arrives on the second week of October, and Uncharted 2 on the third. Persona PSP and Demon’s Souls have been paid off, so hopefully I can scrounge up enough money week after week to pay for these backtoback releases.

On a disappointing note though, due to PlayAsia being a dick and not accepting my Visa card number, I wasn’t able to pre-order the Mio Alter fig I was so hyped up about. I used the money to pay off Demon’s Souls, but I’m still upset because it’s the first /fig/ I’ve genuinely wanted in a while.

Mio, You will be missed. ;____;

Mio, You will be missed. T_T

Mach #65 – It never ceases to amaze me. September 15, 2009

Have I bitched enough about my job yet? Nah, you could never bitch about your job too much. So, working Sunday, I’ve realized a couple things.

1. The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me as far as analytical skills.

For example, we have The Fast and The Furious: Super Bikes in our arcade. Two linked cabinets and recently the other one hasn’t been working all that great, leaving one machine in working condition. Like many of our arcade machines, the coin slot catcher has been on the fritz, meaning it just eats up tokens and stuff. I had numerous amounts of people come up to me and complain to me saying that the machine ate their tokens. From what I’ve observed, they only put it into the right slot. HAVE THEY EVER CONSIDERED USING THE OTHER COIN SLOT? THERE ARE TWO OF THEM.

Ugh… I happens on pretty much every game in the arcade…

2. People in general are just stupid.

Here, along with the arcade’s horribly tacky carpeting, is our Tsuguri cabinet. Some might know this game in English as Blade of Honor. You’d be amazed at how many people can’t play this game. As you could see here, the game uses the pedal to advance the game as well as defend and stuff. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLETELY IGNORED THE PEDAL AND STEPPED ON THE PLATFORM IN FRONT OF IT TO PLAY THE GAME. THE PEDAL IS THERE FOR A FUCKING REASON.

It just makes me think about how people’s minds work. And lawl for Konami making a better sword game than Ubisoft did. Lawl Red Steel.

Anyway, I picked up a couple of games over the weekend. Remember I mentioned that I wanted the Naruto games on the 360? I got em’. Both of them. I actually have to say, the games are pretty impressive. For being an anime game, they managed to make this one pretty good. You get to see the expansive landscape that is the Leaf Village and have the option of Japanese voice acting, so you don’t have to hear “BELIEVE IT” over and over again… Unless you have a serious boner for “DATTEBAYO” instead. I’m happy with the purchases either way.

I also picked up my third copy of Soul Calibur II. Had to replace my PS2 version a while back and when I discovered you could play it on the 360 as well, I figured to pick it up for the reason that I could practice for the arcade. I have like 12xx wins and 270ish losses at the arcade I work at for Conquest Mode, so yeah… I need to make my character tougher to beat.

Anyway, I like how everyone has been updating again. It’s refreshing seeing a new post every other day. :)

Plus, god dammit, Reb. Post already. >:|

Until then, later~

Ren #30 – What a catastrophe. September 14, 2009

This is how I spend my Sunday nights.. or better yet, Monday mornings. It’s 1:28 AM and I’ve got class at 8 AM. I’m supposed to wake up at 6 AM. This is what I get for being a lazy ass and sleeping until the afternoon. Oh well, at least I’m off on Tuesdays, so when I get home from classes, I’ll probably be napping. Shame that I get home 6-7 PM, though.  T_T

In other news: I’m really looking forward to that new theme.

Oh wait, that’s not news.

Man, I am hoping that Tales of Vesperia PS3 gets a US release. I will be so happy and so satisfied if it does. The new costumes ignite a passion within me.. CHLOE, IN MY ESTELLE? LEGENDIA? IN MY VESPERIA? Flynn in a Cless costume .. hmm.. it’s actually quite fitting. Especially with his “JUSTICCCEEE” persona. Yuri in a Judas costume, urgh. I never liked Judas or Leon to begin with, so that’s pretty “eh” to me. RITA IN A MAO COSTUME IS LAWLS. Karol in a Lloyd costume is wut. But then again, he pretty much looks like a child version of Lloyd. Er, I forgot Judith and Raven’s and I can’t be bothered to look it up so early in the morning.

Anyway, currently on my “Now Playing” list, I’ve been alternating between three games: Final Fantasy VI, Dissidia Final Fantasy, and Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

I’m actually surprised at the amount of time I’ve put into Dissidia, mostly because it feels like I haven’t really played that long. WHAT, 23 HOURS IS A LOT FOR ME. Especially since I lack the essential motivation needed to contribute towards a game. I also wasn’t that impressed by it, but lately, I’ve become addicted. It’s strange. I’ve pretty much finished all of the heroes stories (the Destiny Odysseys). I’m doing Shade Impulse now, which apparently is the main story. Story? What story? They’re just throwing excuses to give the FF heroes a reason to fight. As I expected, the story is butchered, cluttered, and boring and their rather weak “reasons” are only excuses for character development, if you could even call it that.

But it doesn’t hurt to see all of the heroes working together. This game will spawn a crapload of yaoi doujinshi and Terra gang-rape btw.

However, the gameplay is something else, I won’t lie. I became addicted simply because of that. OF COURSE I USE CLOUD BECAUSE HE IS CHEAP AND I WANT TO HURRY UP AND BEAT THE GAME, LAWL. Aside from Cloud, I’ve become interested in Cecil’s moveset, though he can be quite slow. I hate his stupid Paladin form, dammit.

ANYWAY, this recent Dissidia indulgence brought upon me starting Final Fantasy VI for the SNES.

I’ve always heard that it was the best FF in the series, but I never was interested. But shit, Kefka is such a BADASS. I’m only 5 hours in, so I can’t say much, but so far, lovin’ it.

As for P2, not much development there. I started it.. it moves slow in the beginning.. actually, I’m not quite sure whether or not I’m still AT the beginning (5 hours in here, too). But – I have to head to Eiikichi’s high school now and beat some kid up. Awesome. The battle system hasn’t really sucked me in yet, BUT I’LL GET THERE, EVENTUALLY. So far, I’m liking it. Oooh yeah.

Also, if you haven’t read my faglog’s notes, I threw in some “Franchise Progression” thing in there. It’s made of win.

Augh, where has my time gone.

Really, I wish I had the time and patience I had back in the day to sit down, shut everything out and just play a game from start to finish. Now I’m plagued with worries in the back of my head, like “You have that book report to finish!” or “There’s still 30 questions you need to answer!”. And going back and forth between trying to play and worrying about other things, I end up getting nothing done at all, either in the game or with the things I’m worrying about. It’d help if the game I was playing didn’t fall under any of the following categories:

  • Failed to draw me in as I thought it would. (Example: Devil Summoner 2)
  • Is widely regarded as a pretty terrible game. (Example: Lair, Baten Kaitos.)
  • An RPG. (No example needed.)
  • A Sonic game. (Why did I suddenly get so many of the 3D ones.)

If it were up to me, I’d close up my backlog and say NO MORE NEW GAMES UNTIL BEATEN. But with Scribblenauts, Kingdom Hearts DS, Demon’s Souls, Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, Uncharted II and Persona PSP around the corner, I can’t help myself but keep my backlog open for a little while longer… Even if having 69 unfinished games is amusing.

Nothing new of the /v/ front. Still hacking away at that Dissidia: Final Fantasy, grinding, unlockan and playan against my college buds. That’s pretty much the only thing I’ve been playing as of the last few weeks, with some slight Patapon and Rhythm Heaven once in a blue moon. Still need to get all-perfects on the latter, but Moai Do-Whoop 2 is being ridiculous.

Anyway, I’m just about done, so here, have some “Knights of Persona” Persona 4 MAD. Spoilers in video, so watch at your own risk.

lol, 69.

You know the Crush soda? I’d imagine people knowing them more for the orange and grape flavors. I was at my school’s marketplace buying some snacks and saw the strawberry flavored one. Tried that. It was… Interesting… To say the least.

So I’ve just been in a posting mood lately. Another person has requested to join in the blog, and I’m optimistic about this person joining. Mainly because this person is also responsible for helping out with our next theme and stuff as well. Which is also why I’d like to announce that, at the moment, I’m not accepting anyone else into the blog. As much as I like Backlog members participating in on this and stuff, I’ve just had too many people post in a one shot deal and never see them post again… You know, kinda like Noi and Minty on Slaves to the Grind.

But anyway, I’m about halfway done with my day. Currently in my Intro to Astronomy class, somewhat ignoring what my professor is saying. Which isn’t exactly the greatest thing to do at this moment in time since I feel this is the class I really need to pay attention to, but some room in the science building is popping popcorn. The smell is intoxicating.

It’s also almost the start of my weekend. I feel the need to buy another new game to keep myself busy (as if I don’t have enough games to keep myself busy already <.<). To be honest though, I’m not exactly sure what I’m feeling right now. Something quick? Something to last me several streams? … I just don’t know. Maybe a new fighter or something? I’m kinda just torn on what to get. I just have the urge to pick up something.

Sadly though, I’ve been feeling Naruto: The Broken Bond lately. I can’t exactly say it’s a horrible game since Metacritic actually averaged the reviews to 80. Which in my opinion is pretty damn good. Not many anime based games actually get good ratings these days, so I suppose I’m optimistic about it. I dunno, I suppose I’ve just had a thing for bad concepts lately? x_x

Dunno if that’s a good or bad thing… I also gotta figure out what I’m gonna do for my next article on my school’s paper. Maybe a review on a game? Perhaps Tales of Vesperia? Earth Defense Force 2017? I dunno.

I can’t really think right now… I guess that’s what I get for sleeping for only an hour? x_x

Until then, later~

Yeah, I know. It’s been a long time. I’ve missed you guys! Well, not really.

…Wait, I didn’t mean it like that! I just mean that I haven’t written for a while. I still read all of you, which is why I don’t miss you. See? (Nice save there, Sou.)

At any rate… Well, I haven’t exactly really been busy. Most people have jobs, or have just started going back to school. I have neither of those things. Good, right? That means I can spend all my waking hours plaing vidyas, watching /a/, and listening to wicked awesome music! Right?

…right?

WRONG. I don’t know where all the time goes, (or went, rather) but I haven’t really had a lot of it. With the exception of the past week. I’ll get to that in a minute. I’ve been keeping relatively busy, I guess.

First off, Hot Like Wasabi! if you don’t know what it is, check out my previous post. You SHOULD know if you read this blog. :D Long story short, it’s a gaming/geek culture radio show that I broadcast every Saturday afternoon from 4-6pm (EST). Doing said radio show though got me Press passes to FanExpo a couple weeks ago. Got to interview and meet a bunch of celebrities like Crispin Freeman (squee!), Scott McNeil and Brad Swaile, Mary McDonnell, Emma Caulfield, James Kyson Lee, and Victor Lucas and Scott Jones from G4. And… Leonard fricking Nimoy! That was amazing. Brief, but incredible.

Another thing that’s been under my belt is another sort of RPG. I’m sure mostbof you have heard of D&D. Well, I have a game of that going that I’ve recently started, but that’s not what I’m getting at. There’s another company called White Wolf that makes games like Hunter the Reckoning and Vampire the Masquerade. (And to be completely honest, the Underworld movies pretty much ripped off the White Wold world.) But before they were /v/, they were tabletop. We, however, play a ‘live-action’ version of it each week. It’s loads of fun. See? I do things other than just vidya!

…Speaking of /v/, I’ve been playing the shit out of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. It’s actually pretty cool, and I’m having quite a lot of fun with it. I just :B: it the other day. Completed all the stories, (didn’t 100% each map, but still) got all characters to level 100. There’s so much various content though, like the Accomplishments. It’s gonna take me ages to :C: this one…

I’ve also (amusingly enough) been playing through Zelda II on my Wii. Why? Cause it’s all nostalgic and stuff. Even though it got a lot of flak for being different, it’s still a fun game. Quite challenging. Speaking of Zelda, I have to finish that :M: run of Majora’s Mask…

Marathons! I’ve actually got two on the go, and that’s probably a bad thing. It’ll hamper my completion of both of them. Heh. First of the two is Xenosaga. It’s been such a long time since I’ve played through it, and the recent meet with Crispin Freeman (who signed my copy!) made me wantto dig it out and do it all over again. I admit, I haven’t played much into it yet. I’m still on the Woglinde at the beginning of the game. I’ll get to it though!

The other is another fantastic trilogy: Metroid Prime. I picked up the new Wii edition of the trilogy just last week, and… Well, the new controls added to the old games is a great refresh. I’m really happy with it. I’m about halfway through Prime. I’m gonna set the goal of hopefully being finished with both Marathons by Christmas. Let’s see if that actually happens!

So, I’m going to bring this post to a close. I’m actually typing this from my iPhone using the WordPress app, and wanted to test it out. That, and I’m having a lazy/sick day and didn’t really want to get out of bed. In any case, my elbows, wrists, and thumbs are getting sore. See you next time! Oh, and listen to Hot Like Wasabi!

Ciao!

Noi #15/Noi hates on #2 – Sundays September 6, 2009

Posted by Noi in Noi hates Things, Noi's Rants.

I hate sundays.

Shitty TV programming, most commercial places close early, you’re full of regrets over stuff you couldn’t do over the weekend, and in most cases, despair over having to go to class the next day because of some project that’s due the next day, yet you haven’t quite finished.

Now, it’s not /all/ bad I guess. If you don’t have anything else to do, then it can be a nice last day of relaxation before the weekday starts. But EH, that’s not always the case, at least not for me. Even right now I’m working on other college dealings and papers and stuff, but I need a break from all that. I seriously don’t know why it is, but this college trimester for me has felt the most tedious and overworked, yet I’m doing nearly the same things I do every other trimester.

But enough about the hating on sundays part.

Admittedly, a lot has happened since my last post. I’ve grown to hate my SDTV (I was ignorant about 1080p until I went to a friend’s house and hooked up my PS3 there. I hate him now.), I’ve been lazy and bored towards every one of my classes except Computer Programming, I’ve got a backlog of work to do, I seem to only have the patience to play games on the go, and whole fuckton of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Heck, if I fail any classes this trimester, I blame this stupid game. It’s so addicting that I can’t even go to sleep without having played the game for a little bit. I should finish up my own Dissidia review, but I’m having much more fun actually playing the game.

On another note, I actually got started on my 100 things section! It only took me 7 or so months, but hey, at least I’m halfway there.

….And I’m fresh out of content, so here’s a random video that made me laugh. You could say it’s related to the TF2 hat thing, but it’s not.
