Mach #63 – A serious considersation September 6, 2009

While I am ranting in this, I’ll also label this an announcement. I’ve seen many people come and go on this blog. Mainly due to overcrowding and all that other stuff, when in the reality of the situation, we only have about three active posters (Myself, Noi, and Ren). I’ve been considering it for a while. Mainly, if Sousuke and Nana don’t make a post within the next two weeks or so, they’re off the blog. Why am I not including Reb in that? I actually enjoy his essay of a post. I’m not mad at him at all because when he does post, it’s something significant. PLUS, he’s also brought traffic to my blog because of his Dissidia preview stuff. I’m basically just tired of people saying that there’s too many people here when there’s really no one here and there’s more than enough room for them.
I do want this to be an active blog though. I’ve usually been inspired to update myself if I see that other ranters are updating as well. Makes me want to keep up the pace and stuff. But after Dan and Arc left, the fire kinda died down and I kinda thought to myself, “Is there really any point in doing this anymore?”
I dunno though. If we are going to go through a re-structuring, then I might want to move on to another theme. New theme? New outlook on the blog?
Well, updates with myself? I picked up Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. I basically wanted something quick to play and stuff and watching Hojo and Moku play it, I grew interested. Figured it was worth checking out and stuff.
I haven’t done much in terms of actual gaming because it’s either I’m at school or I’m working. It kinda blows, but whatever, that’s life.
I dunno, next update might be a Claw Marks because of all the music I’ve been listening to lately… Just can’t really think of anything to say right now. I suppose because it’s late or whatever.
Sorry for the lame update, but I thought that I should get that out there about this blog and the “overcrowding” issue.
Until then, later~

Cheers for one year! September 2, 2009

Well, technically two. But then we died. And then revived. And we’ve been going good for a year so far, SO CHEERS FOR ONE YEAR!
Hopefully by next year, we’ll have all of our faglogs beaten.
Anyway, I dyed my hair red. Lawl. College is boring.
Trying to bump this down.
Have a video.

Sousuke #15 – Public Service Announcement! [Update!] May 30, 2009
Posted by Sousuke in Annoucements/News, Sousuke's Rants.add a comment
I’m sticking this in the Announcement section, because it’s… well, more of an announcement than a rant. A rant WILL be coming soon though, I hope.
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time of Tales of Vesperia the past few days. I’ve racked in over twenty hours since Wednesday.
Plus other things, too. So I WILL get around to that, hopefully early next week.
What I AM here to talk about though is… A few years back, a friend and I had a radio show called Hot Like Wasabi. Playing anything from games, anime, remixes… Anything Japanese, basically. Due to stuff like moving out of town and such, we had to stop, but…!
Tomorrow [Saturday, that is], we’re making a return! We’re broadening our horizons a little, but we’ve still got a fair amount of Japanese stuff set up for our first show.
So, what I’d like to ask of you guys is this: give us some listeners! The radio station is streamed online, so if you’re around your PC from 4-6pm EST on Saturdays, tune in and listen to us! Hot Like Wasabi: NPC [Never Playing Crap!] is making its return tomorrow!
[Just click here, or save it to your library. I've tested in Windows Media Player, iTunes, and Winamp, but other players should work too.]
[Update!] It seems that not only can you STREAM the show live, but there’s also an online archive available now! After we got home after the show, we were able to go and download it immediately and give it a listen to see how it went. If you miss a show and want to listen, just head over here, choose a Saturday [starting May 30th], with a start time of 4pm and lasting 2 hours. The server is incredibly fast, and the file for our first show only came out to be about 55mb. Sweet!

The Annoucement Arc May 27, 2009

Well since everyone is waiting on me to do the theme introduction (for some reason, idk) I guess I’ll make it now.
I’ve been hearing about a new theme for quite some time now. Longer than months from when Dan was still here. I kept hearing that Mach wanted to as well but couldn’t do to other IRL events that keep poping up. So Len and I finally pushed forward with the plans for a new theme (Mostly because I didn’t want it to be P4ever) and came up with either a Guilty Gear or a Street Fighter theme. You can guess which one we went with. Like Len said, most of this couldn’t be done with Linkman for the layout work. (Thanks, Chris. We all owe ya one.) And another big thanks to Len himself for all the work on the delicious banner and sprites you’ll all be seeing from now on. A lot of choices so it won’t get boring easily.
Mach #54 – The end is NEYAH. May 6, 2009

One more day left of classes, three more finals remain, and only one I care to study for. I’m excited for classes to end. That means I get to sleep in all day and do absolutely nothing on the weekdays… Except the weekends, where I actually gotta work… But that’s not until the end of the month.
While I’m at it, although mentioned previous times in several stream chats, I’d like to officially announce I’ll be on hiatus for the blog for about two weeks. Why? Starting the 15th, I’ll be on a 7-day cruise to Alaska. Almost immediately following that, I’ll be going on a road trip with my family to West Virginia so my cousin, who will be transferring to a University there in 2011, could see the campus there. While we’re at it, we’ll be going up the East Coast just seeing the sights and stuff. So that should be an exciting two weeks. Although, if I’m lucky, I’ll be bringing my laptop with me during both trips. Should any place have access to Wi-Fi (that’s completely in-expensive), I’ll be accessing the Internet from there.
In music news, one of my favorite independant music artists, Renard Klippa, recently had an awesome music deal. I ended up purchasing most of his own discography up to this point, so expect a couple of more Claw Marks with some kick ass music for me to share. Dan should already know the upcoming one.
In gaming news, I’ve finally dropped below 100 games in my backloggery thanks to me finally completing Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. I mean, it only took me a year and three months to beat a four episode game, but I finally beat it. I must admit though, the last case was pretty fucking awesome. I’m hoping that in the course of this week, I’ll be able to track down Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner before the second game comes out. Regardless though, I do plan to pick up the second one whether or not I find the game… Simply because I want that Raidou plushie. I also want to track down the first Fatal Frame game since it’s the only one I don’t have at this current point in time. I do plan to stream the whole series.
Also, I must get a capture card. Time to bug my parents about a birthday present. :3
I think that about wraps it up for now.
Until then, later~

mach_gamelog.exe – Pokemon Platinum – Chapter 1: And so it begins… March 22, 2009

Dammit, it’s been cold here lately. Only God Arceus knows why. It’s been bothering me for quite a bit actually. It’s already Spring and we’re still seeing snowfall. Maybe it’s because the weather in Snowfall is finally drifting down south, but it just seems a little pecuiliar that it would happen now of all times.
On top of things that have been pissing me off as of lately, I suppose I could include this Egg that was left at my doorstep last week. It’s slightly mysterious only to the point that I recognized the handwriting on the “annonymous” note, but that’s not important. He couldn’t have just given me the egg in person though? The only mystery left is what’s inside this egg.
Oh, by the way, the name’s Vincent Kiba. Everyone just calls me Kiba though.
Len Announcement – Hiatus October 21, 2008

That’s right. Unfortunately, I’ll have to go on hiatus for a while.
I’ve been having family problems for YEARS.. and well, it’s gotten to the edge. My own edge. Something like that. Either way, my sister is on her knees for me to resolve it.. and I know this will take up a large portion of my time.
Plus work keeps me busy. I know I’m online a lot, but the majority of the time, I’m at work, which means I’ve got no time for games and anime. I used to bring in my consoles, but I’ve stopped that. o_o And anime is just a borefest now, hopefully I’ll watch some more later. When motivation beckons at my call.
As for games.. time for that is also very limited. Right now I’m playing Kingdom Hearts 2, and I’ll continue to play games when I have free time, but I just don’t have the time to rant. I’d like to rant about fresh things, you see, not something I watched/played years ago.
I’ll pop back, sometime. I won’t really be doing rants, perhaps I’ll throw in a review or two sometime. Also, I’d like to concentrate on my studies a whole lot more. I’m majoring in English.. going to towards the teaching career. I’m taking classes at insane and unorganized times, so I have a blasted schedule. Literature can be a bitch sometimes. I’ve got loads to read/write. Ha.
I’m sorry for this, but this is just how it is for now. I’ll definitely take a step back onto DRE:ID2 in December. I’ll see you around the Backloggery or NA. Tootles~

A Step in the Revolution #1 – “Give it your best!” October 9, 2008
Posted by Mach in Annoucements/News.3 comments
Welcome to my new segment, A Step in the Revolution. It’s all about the Dance Dance Revolution series and it’s current 10-year history. Each entry will go into a different mix in the series.
This one will start with the game that started it all. Simply being called Dance Dance Revolution it was released in Japan in November 21st, 1998.
It’s a hard to fathom that such a simple game had not already been made. You have a four panel dance game in a 3×3 panel format with arrows going Up, Down, Left, and Right and all you have to do is hit an arrow on screen in rhythm to a pad beneath your feet. The more arrows you hit in succession, your Dance Gauge would go up and would have a better chance to pass the song. After playing through a song, you would be evaluated on your performance with a letter grade.
I’ll be going through each of the games in chronological order and through the ones I’ve played. We’ll be starting with the very first title simply called, Dance Dance Revolution.

Despite sporting the shortest song list of all the games in the series, it made a huge impact on the rhythm game community immortalizing many of these songs as classics to come for the games to follow.
The game itself was meant to be beginner friendly and what made this different from the other entries in the series is how you choose difficulty as well as the short lived Arrange Mode.
By default, you would be stuck on the Basic (the easiest difficulty at the time). If you wanted to play on Another or Maniac, you would have to enter a code to unlock the higher difficulties. Throughout my 8-year DDR career, I’ve only played this version in the arcades once and that’s when I was in the Philippines and completely new at the game. It’s a little weird how you would have enter a code just to play on a harder difficulty, but I guess if you knew that information, it meant you were a seasoned pro at the game. All I have is the home version for this game and it’s a little weird looking back needing to hit
just to play on the hardest difficulty. It also makes me laugh a little that in the arcade version, at the time, PARANOiA (Focus on right side for actual Maniac Steps for the song, footage from DDR SuperNOVA) was one of the hardest songs, if not, the hardest against Trip Machine (footage taken in Stepmania).
Arrange Mode, in the home version of the game, on the other hand was an extremely short lived mode that was only available in this version. Many DDRers now a days tap on the arrows, hitting nothing on screen, to get the beat of the song and prepare for the first incoming set of arrows. However, this mode actually penalizes you for hitting the arrow while nothing is there and shooting some life off your Dance Gague. Why they did that, I wouldn’t know why. But it was kind of stupid and I’m actually happy they removed this.
While the arcade version had only 11 songs, a touring edition of the game was created and added three songs to the mix. Out of the three that appeared, only one song continued on in the series. Another, steps were created and later released for use in DDR emulators. The remaining song was never released in a future version and the step chart never saw the light of day. When the home version was released it added on another four songs as well as adding the one song that survived the touring edition bring the grand total of songs for this version to 16.
A couple of songs to note:
butterfly: A popular song that spawned the first simple freestyle for the game. Going with the chart of the song, you would spin a full 360 degree while hitting
in succession, you would be doing a Spin. While I do like the song and it’s a very fun song to freestyle to, it’s annoying hearing this over and over again because girls like playing this song too damn much.
PARANOiA – Was the first and the base of the many remixes that would appear in the later versions.
Trip Machine: The second hardest song of the game. For some odd reason, this song spawned a lot of flip and stunts. There were plenty of spins in this song, but how people actually manage to fit these stunts in is beyond me. Nonetheless awesome.
This was the beginning of a revolution. It was the start for many great things to come…
Next Up: Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Mix

Mach here. Me and Len are back and we have a lot of stuff to rant about… When we can at least.
