Lasting Impressions #1 – Devil May Cry 2 February 2, 2009

While Hands on the Noi will be my category for my first impressions on the vydia, Lasting Impressions is my category for final thoughts on them. Two kinds of “reviews” deserve two kinds of categories after all. That and I just wanted more category slots like the others.
Anyway, there comes a time in every gamer’s life when you’ve got to man up (or woman up, though that sounds awkward..) and burst through that one game you dislike so much that you’ve kept it locked away for ages, saying you’ll beat it “eventually”. For me, this game was Devil May Cry 2. While I can’t think of any nice words to say about the game, I can think of plenty of negative ones, though I’ll spare you the details, since odds are, you already know how much I dislike the game. Last friday, I just so happened to be doing a Backlog beating stream on my Justin.tv channel, so I figured “Hey, I’ve beaten both Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and I’ve done SOME progress in Devil May Cry 2, so why not beat that too?” So I ended up beating the Dante disc of the game in front of a live studio audience, and needless to say, the game didn’t leave much of an impression at all. However, yesterday, I decided to go ahead and also clear the Lucia disc, but something happened that I did not suspect. I was actually having FUN. With DMC2. Fun and DMC2 do not go together at all. But it was happening. I’ll get to that later, but it’s enough to say that I was not expecting Capcom to make the game better to play with the lame side-character than with the actual main character.
