Noi #18 – Games 4 Sale November 8, 2009

See what I did there? I replaced “for” with “4″, thus making a witty title! Hehe, I’m so smart.

So I came upon a realization. If I really like a game, I’ll play through it until it’s beaten. On occasion, I might drop a game for a while and then pick it up again, but there are times when after dropping it, I never ever pick it up again. Time goes by, and then I when I look at that poor game, waiting to be played, I realize, I didn’t quite enjoy playing the game to begin with. This is the case for most of my currently unfinished games, so, I’m getting rid of them.

Everything that’s on my backlog marked as unfinished is avaiable for sale/trade, with some notable exceptions. I’ll be marking down the games here that I’m perfectly willing to part with, along with conditions and whether or not I’ve had problems with the game before. Games are complete with original case and manual unless specified.

Without further ado, the list:

Gameboy Color -

Mega Man Xtreme -
Game only.

GameCube -

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex

Resident Evil Zero

Sonic Heroes

Viewtiful Joe 2

NES -

Friday the 13th -
Game only.

Metroid -
Game only.

PlayStation -

Alundra 2 -
Game only, damaged. Might just send it for free to someone who wants to salvage it.

Fear Effect II: Retro Helix – Claimed for Endaso.

Galerians

PlayStation 2 -

.hack//Infection Part 1

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness

Chaos Legion

Dark Cloud

Destroy all Humans 2: Make Love not War -
Game only.

Galerians: Ash

Max Payne

Max Payne 2 -
Disc only.

Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X

PlayStation Portable -

Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth -
Game and case, no manual.

SNES -

Disney’s Goof Troop -
Game only.

F-Zero -
Game only.

Wario’s Woods -
Game only.

Wii -

Sonic and the Secret Rings

And there you go. I might update prices later on if people want me to, but otherwise, I’m willing to haggle/bargain for anything.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean

Noi #17 – Disc Read Error, and not the Insert Disc 2 kind September 17, 2009

It’s really a tragic thing when game consoles backfire on you. As evidenced during my stream last saturday, my Wii has halfway died and gone to heaven, as it’s unable to read discs after someone (who I have yet to find out who was responsible), chucked a PS2 disc in it, damaging the laser. It can still run channels and downloaded games just fine, so it’s not a total loss, but my entire disc-based collection is entirely unplayable for a while, which means no Muramasa: The Demon Blade until this little problem is fixed.

Now, onto video games.

This week’s been hectic. The brunt of the Fall video game rush is just now starting to show. I’ve already picked up Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Scribblenauts and an unexpected Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, all of which I’ve enjoyed plenty. I might review one of the latter, if my Dissidia review ends up going flat. I’m gonna see if I can pick up the Batman: Arkham Asylum Collector’s Edition box today, since I saw it at my local gamestop when I went to pick up the two DS games, and I /think/ it was the only one left.

On the pre-order horizon though, many more games have yet to come. Both Katamari Forever and Persona PSP come out next week, with Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days coming out the week after. Finally, Demon’s Souls arrives on the second week of October, and Uncharted 2 on the third. Persona PSP and Demon’s Souls have been paid off, so hopefully I can scrounge up enough money week after week to pay for these backtoback releases.

On a disappointing note though, due to PlayAsia being a dick and not accepting my Visa card number, I wasn’t able to pre-order the Mio Alter fig I was so hyped up about. I used the money to pay off Demon’s Souls, but I’m still upset because it’s the first /fig/ I’ve genuinely wanted in a while.

Mio, You will be missed. ;____;

Mio, You will be missed. T_T

Augh, where has my time gone.

Really, I wish I had the time and patience I had back in the day to sit down, shut everything out and just play a game from start to finish. Now I’m plagued with worries in the back of my head, like “You have that book report to finish!” or “There’s still 30 questions you need to answer!”. And going back and forth between trying to play and worrying about other things, I end up getting nothing done at all, either in the game or with the things I’m worrying about. It’d help if the game I was playing didn’t fall under any of the following categories:

  • Failed to draw me in as I thought it would. (Example: Devil Summoner 2)
  • Is widely regarded as a pretty terrible game. (Example: Lair, Baten Kaitos.)
  • An RPG. (No example needed.)
  • A Sonic game. (Why did I suddenly get so many of the 3D ones.)

If it were up to me, I’d close up my backlog and say NO MORE NEW GAMES UNTIL BEATEN. But with Scribblenauts, Kingdom Hearts DS, Demon’s Souls, Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, Uncharted II and Persona PSP around the corner, I can’t help myself but keep my backlog open for a little while longer… Even if having 69 unfinished games is amusing.

Nothing new of the /v/ front. Still hacking away at that Dissidia: Final Fantasy, grinding, unlockan and playan against my college buds. That’s pretty much the only thing I’ve been playing as of the last few weeks, with some slight Patapon and Rhythm Heaven once in a blue moon. Still need to get all-perfects on the latter, but Moai Do-Whoop 2 is being ridiculous.

Anyway, I’m just about done, so here, have some “Knights of Persona” Persona 4 MAD. Spoilers in video, so watch at your own risk.

lol, 69.

Noi #15/Noi hates on #2 – Sundays September 6, 2009

I hate sundays.

Shitty TV programming, most commercial places close early, you’re full of regrets over stuff you couldn’t do over the weekend, and in most cases, despair over having to go to class the next day because of some project that’s due the next day, yet you haven’t quite finished.

Now, it’s not /all/ bad I guess. If you don’t have anything else to do, then it can be a nice last day of relaxation before the weekday starts. But EH, that’s not always the case, at least not for me. Even right now I’m working on other college dealings and papers and stuff, but I need a break from all that. I seriously don’t know why it is, but this college trimester for me has felt the most tedious and overworked, yet I’m doing nearly the same things I do every other trimester.

But enough about the hating on sundays part.

Admittedly, a lot has happened since my last post. I’ve grown to hate my SDTV (I was ignorant about 1080p until I went to a friend’s house and hooked up my PS3 there. I hate him now.), I’ve been lazy and bored towards every one of my classes except Computer Programming, I’ve got a backlog of work to do, I seem to only have the patience to play games on the go, and whole fuckton of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Heck, if I fail any classes this trimester, I blame this stupid game. It’s so addicting that I can’t even go to sleep without having played the game for a little bit. I should finish up my own Dissidia review, but I’m having much more fun actually playing the game.

On another note, I actually got started on my 100 things section! It only took me 7 or so months, but hey, at least I’m halfway there.

….And I’m fresh out of content, so here’s a random video that made me laugh. You could say it’s related to the TF2 hat thing, but it’s not.

While I love getting new games, it’s only when I get a huge bunch of games at once that I realize just how much dedication it takes to actually play through them, not counting ones I already own.

Turned 20 yesterday, yet not much has changed except for having beaten a whole bunch of games. Even that’s been overturned in a single day, what with now having a job, and splurging on my first paycheck on a visit to GameStop and Play ‘N’ Trade. Now that my birthday is done with, the list of things I’ve been gifted/bought for myself are.

  • Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Gifted by Blufin)
  • Bionic Commando (PS3)
  • Mirror’s Edge (PS3)
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
  • Dead Space (PS3)
  • 4000 Wii Points, Bought FF4: TAY tales, Cho Aniki
  • 2000 PSN points, Bought FFVII
  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete
  • New PC Headset
  • Brave Fencer Musashi (Gifted by Danstorce)
  • Megaman 1 T-shirt
  • BlazBlue 6B T-shirt

Yeah, I’ve only managed to beat like 3-4 games in the past month, and these gifts don’t help.

I had a much longer blog post but stupid firefox crashed and deleted everything asdfghjkl

So yeah, birthday. I showed off the Bit. Trip and My Life as a **** games, as well as Dead Space (we were scared and it was noon), Bionic Commando, and more stuff.

In the end, the highlight of the evening was playing Megaman 1 (fitting, since I was wearing the MM shirt I was gifted). We took turns, passing the controller once we either got a game over or cleared a stage. In the end though, I ended up beating every stage except for cutman, who was beaten before I got my turn. This lasted well into the night, and they ended up leaving around 1:30 AM.

So now I cut this post short with the single driving force behind playing MM1.

Noi #13 – KyoAni can go suck egg. July 13, 2009

…..

Haruhi S2 Episode 5. Really KyoAni? Really? I think my previous rant was enough on the subject, but at least this episode SEEMED to hint at an episode 6 conslusion. Maybe. I hope.

Ooooon to a brighter subject through. Or maybe, not so bright really. The packages I was expecting haven’t arrived yet. Only one did, which was Resistance: Fall of Man, and I already went and beat the game. I haven’t really been in a gaming mood, outside of playing Street Fighter IV to fulfill my fighting game craving while BlazBlue gets here. Unlocking trophies here and there, though it’s just meant to keep me busy while more games arrive. I could be beating the games I already own, but eh, I simply don’t feel in the mood for them right now.

Huh, rather short post. Here, have some Nanairo medley. Nico link for those of you who’d rather see it in one video.

Noi #12 – God. Haruhi S2 episode 4 sucked. July 8, 2009

This was the angriest sprite I could find.I mean really KyoAni. I didn’t mind episode 2 or 3. 2 was the introduction to the Endless Eight arc, and 3 elaborated on ZOMG IT’S GROUNDHOG DAY. But episode 4 added nothing to the plot, was the same as episode 3 but with some different PoV’s, and it’s just generally an utter waste of an episode. Screw you for making me actually start a blog post with anime, which I’ve never done so before. If I wasn’t such a Haruhi fanboy, I’d just skip over the next few episodes until someone told me that something actually happened in the series.

Now that I got that out of the way, I’d like to add a comment to fellow blogmate Arc’s entry over the frequency of my posts. Note first, that this isn’t meant to be a flame, critique, or anything of the sort, just stating my own reasons. I usually take some time in between blogs to actually have something to blog about, like that nicely worded paragraph up at the top of this entry. I know Mac’s said that he doesn’t mind, but I don’t lig blogging about RL issues, unless it’s something I really, really need to rant about. I just focus on the entertainment aspect, bringing you the “what’s up” about my gaming, animu watching, among other stuff.

…I should probably finish off that Dissidia review I started about a year ago. Sheesh.

Anyway, gaming! I’m bribing the hell out of everyone i know to get me presents for my birthday (HINTJULY25HINT), and I already managed to claim a copy of Mega Man Starforce 3: Black Ace.

The latest in the eternal rehash that once was Battle Network.

The latest in the eternal rehash that was once Battle Network.

I’ve been enjoying it so far. It’s by far the best entry in the Starforce series, somehow following the Battle Network pattern of the third being the best game in the series. It has the same type of gameplay as it’s predecessors with new twists, fixes and whatnot, and while some of the obligatory stylus uses are slightly annoying (Starforce 2 could be played entirely without using the stylus), it’s a smooth experience once you get used to it. So far, the only Bro that’s hit me up on this is Phanir, so if any of you pick up a copy, make sure to let us know!

I should be heading to the post office to see if anything’s arrived in the way. I’m currently expecting Endaso’sBox of Crap™” to arrive sometime this week, a box full of horrors that I must go through for the sake of gaming. I’m also expting my Playasia shipment to get here, as well as two games I ordered from Goozex. So all in all, I’m expecting Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, Shadow the Hedhehog, Sonic Heroes, Sonic and the Secret Rings, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Resistance: Fall of Man and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) to grace my doorstep sometime this week.

…What a horrible night to have a backlog.

Noi #11 – Noi’s Final Fantasy Marathon: The Details May 28, 2009

Posted by Noi in Noi's Rants.

So let’s talk marathons. Two days from now, I’ll be starting my extensive Final Fantasy marathon, during which I’ll play all of the core Final Fantasy titles, stream most of them, and maybe even go for a spin-off title or two, all for the eventual release of Final Fantasy XIII come next year. People can join me in this quest whether they just want to beat the games, complete them, or try a more daring Master run.

As of this writing, there are 34 people taking part of the marathon, myself included. To join the marathon, all you really need to do is just play two or more Final Fantasy titles in a row, since that alone qualifies as a “marathon”. I’ll be covering the games I’ll be playing here, as well as mention some other potential titles I might just play for the heck of it.

On a side note, I’ll be hosting some opening ceremonies for the marathon on my Justin.tv channel, so participants might want to show up for the celebration.

Testing out the new theme here.  Looks awesome, though using the skit faces as they currently are might be a little too big, so I’m down scaling it to 60% for this one. Letting Len do the honors. I never got to use this portrait anyway, so might as well.

Anyway, since a week ago, I’ve been enjoying the liberties and wonders of not having anymore college work. The last few weeks were hectic and I might just fail a class, but eh, what can you do. At least now I have more time to play games and actually watch anime, which is something I haven’t done much as of late.

In gaming news, I still haven’t even come close to playing Devil Summoner 2. Doesn’t help that I need to be in the mood to play RPGs in general, so I don’t think I’ll be playing that in a while. I did manage to nab Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha Blade Warriors for about 5 bux each, so at least I got that to keep me entertained as well as my other 65 unfinished games orz.

Let’s talk marathons though. As of my last post, where I was lamenting my poor luck, I managed to buy another RetroDuo at the cost of my soul, so now I’ll be able to play Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI in their original forms, which pleases me greatly. It’ll be a while before I reach V, so the matter of skipping it or not will take a while before I really need to worry about it.

Animu! Gotta love this season, and with the unveiling of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya S2, things only got better. There’s a lot of good things to watch, like Eden of the East, K-On!, Sengoku BASARA and Valkyria Chronicles, which might prompt me to make my own anime updates rather than leaving that job entirely to Arc. I just finished watching Great Teacher Onizuka today though, and wow. For such a classic, I don’t know why I didn’t bother to see it before. If you haven’t seen GTO before, then I’ve taken the liberty of making a little chart for you.

Pick one or two of the following facts:

  • You are male.
  • You are vaguely interested in anime.
  • You are a wuss.

If you picked either the first two, you will love GTO. If you picked the first two combined, then you MUST see GTO. If any of your choices involved the third choice, then I feel sorry for you, but you still have to see GTO.

Anyway, that’ll wrap up this here rant, if you can call it one. Hopefully it won’t take me months before I write up another one.

Noi #9 – Rise from the Ashes May 18, 2009

Like a phoenix, I rise from among the dead. Or at least, that’s only because I’m procrastinating from studying for my finals, which is the main motivation for writing this post to begin with. Awesome, right? Expect me to mope around for failing my physics class for the third time soon enough.

Anyway, in gaming news. It took me long enough, but I finally obtained my first Platinum trophy. As witnessed by a few people over at my live stream, it was an arduous and curse-ridden affair, but perseverance pulled through in the end. I should probably write up a review for Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard when I have the time, since it’s a game I love talking about.

Guess what came in the mail today though? Lovely Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon. Unfortunately, I’m the type of gamer that simply refuses to play game sequels unless I beat the game that comes before it, similar to how I want to play Xenosaga III, but will most likely never will until Xenosaga II is beaten. I still need to pay off that and Crash Bandicoot, which I bought and beat the other day, so I’ll most likely be missing out on Punch-Out!! (Wii), which is coming out pretty soon, as well as some other sweet game deals I saw floating around Amazon. How I hate the internet sometimes.

The box, it taunts me so.

Speaking of RPG, I’ll (finally) be starting my Final Fantasy marathon on the 30th, in celebration of me being free for summer break. Things aren’t going completely as planned though, specially for my streams of said games. While I planned on playing the games on their original consoles (sans III and V), circumstances have forced me to changed things a bit. I’ll be playing I and II on the Origins disc, while I won’t be streaming III at all, since there’s no way to stream DS games, outside from modding my DS with expensive stuff. IV, V and VI are currently in limbo, as I own the original SNES carts for IV and VI, but have no way of playing them outside of buying a console/clone, and the only way to stream V would be to acquire a Gamecube and a GameBoy Player.  Not as expensive as buying a new PS3 game, but it’s not really high on my priority list.

VII, VIII, IX and X I do own, though I can’t guarantee that VII and IX might work as planned, since they seem to act up whenever I try to play them.  XI is still in the works, while XII is actually the replay I’m most expecting to do. I might end up taking a break from the marathon a few times in between, but I won’t hang the marathon for too long. It’s summer vacation after all.

Now excuse me while I go procrastinate on my finals some more.
